I'm sure all of us have heard of Siri, the Apple AI which every apple device can access, at any time. But what is Siri really? How is it so well trained to answer our questions and actively engage in conversations? Siri is a virtual assistant, programmed to understand the human conversation, and its speech recognition engine was provided by Nuance Communications. Siri can simply be activated by holding the home button or spacebar. It was released in 2011. These days Apple uses fancy machine learning to generate Siri's tone, its original voice was based on a natural person.
It was developed by the SRI-led Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organises (CALO) project and founded by Dag Kittlaus, Tom Gruber, and Adam Cheyer. Apple inc spent more than $200M on this project. Siri has been programmed to perform many functions in the device like playing music, turning on/off notifications, googling things, etc. It can be altered to speak in different accents and 21 different languages. The objective C computing language was used to create Siri, which took 17-18 years to fully finish and create the AI-based Siri assistant we know today.
